Boom Boom Mac Fig (Lou) joind the band in Novemeber of 2001. Lou took drum lessons as a
teenager but didn't keep up with it when he went into the Navy. Originally he was going to be a
bagpiper but after the first nights lesson/rehearsal he was given the bass drum to play. It was
the band's tradition to assign the bass drum to the newest memeber of the band until they
could get up a few tunes on the pipes. Boom Boom felt at home playing the bass and asked his
Drum Sergeant, Frank Moore, if it were o.k. to keep playing the bass drum. There were many
members of the band that were happy of his decision. Boom Boom has now been a steady
bass drummer for over 6 years and still is going strong.
Since there were no formal bass drumming workshops in the local area, Boom Boom made
contact with bass drummers at every event that he attended. Constantly getting advice from
the more experienced players. He would network and collect bass drum scores whereever he
could find them. He loves playing the bass drum so much that he bid on his own personal drum
on eBay.
Boom Boom has a tradition of naming his drums. The band's first drum, a 28 inch Premier,
was named Tubby. His personal 24 inch Ludwig is named Lexie; named after the maid on
Monach of the Glen. His drum sergeant surprised Boom Boom a couple of years ago by
purchasing a 28 inch Andante from Mulligan & MacHendry: www.drumsplus.com . Boom Boom
and Frank named the drum after Carrie Henningham, Michael Henningham's wife who also
works at Mulligan & MacHendry.
Bom Boom hopes to keep on playing for many more years.
